We have sought for an old Baptist Confession to reprint for the sake of our people. There has been a couple Confessions come into our hands, and of the two, this is the one we used. We choose this Confession for two reasons.
First, this Confession was born out of the fiery trials of the time. The state church was placing tremendous pressure on the Baptists, and this Confession was the firm foundation on which they stood in the face of the forces of compromise. For 200 years thereafter, it remained the definitive Confession of Faith of the Particular (or Calvinistic) Baptists churches of England and Wales.
Second, almost all Baptist know of and trace their heritage to, C.H. Spurgeon, who has been called, "The Prince of Preachers." There is no doubt that he was one of the greatest preachers of the last century. In his message on ELECTION we find this statement.
